Parts of a dental implant

What are dental implants and what are their components?

Dental implants are artificial titanium roots that integrate with the jawbone to replace missing teeth.

This procedure provides a solid foundation for the placement of a crown, bridge or denture, restoring both aesthetics and function to the patient’s mouth.

A dental implant consists of three main parts:

  • Implant: The titanium screw that acts as the root of the tooth, surgically inserted into the bone.
  • Abutment: Connects the implant to the dental crown, emerging through the gum.
  • Crown: The visible part that simulates the natural tooth, made of porcelain or zirconium, providing an aesthetic and functional solution.

Before getting dental implants…

When are they needed?

Loss of one or more teeth: They are the best option to replace missing teeth permanently.

Difficulty chewing: If teeth are missing, implants can restore the ability to chew food effectively and comfortably.

Deterioration of removable prostheses: Implants can replace removable prostheses that no longer fit well or are uncomfortable.

Bone loss: In cases of dental bone loss, implants help to maintain the bone structure of the jawbone or mandible.

Aesthetic improvement: If you are looking to improve the appearance of your smile in a lasting way, implants are an ideal solution.

Avoid wear on adjacent teeth: Unlike bridges, implants do not require grinding of neighbouring teeth for placement.

Benefits of dental implants

We have the latest technology and the best materials to carry out a successful implantology treatment in Madrid.

Immediate loading

The placement of dental implants with immediate loading allows you to enjoy fixed teeth on the same day of surgery. This means that the patient does not have to wait months to regain their smile and functionality, which improves quality of life immediately.

Minimally invasive

Thanks to guided surgery techniques, dental implants are placed in a precise and less invasive procedure. This reduces post-operative pain, swelling and speeds up the patient’s recovery, making it a much more comfortable process.

Bone preservation

Dental implants prevent the loss of bone mass in the mandible or maxilla, maintaining facial structure. This prevents the bone collapse that often occurs with tooth loss, ensuring better long-term health.

Durability and resistance

Dental implants are a durable and long-lasting solution. With proper care, these implants can last a lifetime, providing a robust and effective alternative to replace missing teeth.

Improved masticatory function

They restore the ability to chew efficiently, allowing the patient to enjoy a balanced diet without restrictions. Unlike removable prostheses, implants feel like natural teeth, providing greater stability and strength.

Natural Aesthetics

Designed to blend in perfectly with the rest of the teeth, achieving a completely natural aesthetic appearance. This improves the patient’s confidence in their smile and eliminates concerns about visual differences.

Biocompatibility

The titanium implants used are 100% biocompatible, which means they are highly tolerated by the human body, reducing the risk of rejection and promoting healthy bone integration.

Easy maintenance

They do not require special care beyond proper daily oral hygiene, just like natural teeth. This makes them a comfortable option and easy to maintain in the long term.

What types of dental implants do we place?

Boneless

An ideal option for patients who have lost a significant amount of bone and do not wish to undergo grafting. These implants are designed to offer stability even in situations with little bone support.

Zygomatics

Used in cases of severe bone loss in the upper jaw, these implants are anchored directly to the zygomatic bone, providing an effective alternative when conventional implants are not viable.

All On 4

This system makes it possible to restore an entire dental arch using only four strategically placed implants. It is a fast and effective solution that allows the placement of a fixed prosthesis on the same day.

All On 6

Similar to the All-on-4 system, but using six implants to provide greater support and stability for patients with more extensive bone loss or requiring a more extensive restoration.

We adapt to your needs

Dental implant treatment procedure

1st free visit

During this initial visit, we perform a detailed evaluation of your oral health using x-rays, intraoral scans and clinical photographs. This consultation allows us to analyze your needs and expectations to determine if implants are the best option for you. We also answer all your questions and provide you with a no-obligation quote.

3D intraoral scan and treatment plan

We use a state-of-the-art 3D intraoral scanner to create an accurate image of your mouth. From this image, we design a customized treatment plan, ensuring that the implant will be placed in the optimal position for the best results. The plan includes a simulation of what the final prosthesis will look like.

Dental implant placement

On the day of surgery, the dental implant (a small titanium screw) is inserted into the maxillary or mandibular bone under local anesthesia. In complex cases, it can be performed under conscious sedation for your comfort. This phase is quick and minimally invasive, as we use computer-guided surgery for maximum precision.

Osseointegration

After implant placement, the bone needs 2 to 4 months to fully integrate with the titanium. During this time, the implant fuses naturally with the bone, providing a solid base for the placement of the final dental crown. In some cases, a temporary prosthesis is placed to maintain esthetics during this process so that you are not left without a tooth.

Placement of definitive crown

Once the implant is fully integrated with the bone, we proceed to place the final crown. This personalized prosthesis, designed to blend in with the rest of your natural teeth, is fixed on the implant, giving you back the functionality and esthetics of your smile.

Maintenance and servicing

After the treatment is completed, regular check-ups are essential to ensure long-term success. During these visits, we check the condition of the implant and gums, and advise you on oral hygiene to ensure that the implant remains in optimal condition.
